I bought a very special pen years ago, anticipating that it would be used some day to sign my books.

Brought it out of the box today. It is beautiful, solid sterling and very tarnished. I used it for the first time to sign my first book to my close friend, Candice Taylor.

What a great day. Hmm. Should I polish it or leave it tarnished? How much did I pay for that pen? I might need to sell it.

Thank you, Sharee. You are one of the smartest, funniest beings on the planet and I cherish your opinion.

Book release! Ahhh. What a time to savor and meditate upon. I loved nothing more than hiding behind my 15” Mac Pro without knowing the time of day or seeing another human for countless hours. Telephone calls went unanswered, mail unopened, while time stood still and eighty some thousand well-chosen words erupted. Isolated and protected in my studio like a caterpillar in a cocoon. Now released, I see how dusty my house is and know how rusty my art for conversation must be. I hear there are cool apps on cell phones now and that pot is almost legal and that culture has popped.

What next? My inclination is to hide back up there and get the sequel out of my head and down on paper. But I have a publishing company now, my first book just released, and gossamer wings to take the new me to book fairs and signings.

I am as proud as a new parent about the pages between those beautiful covers. I can’t stop looking into those eyes or stop inhaling the sweet fresh smell of the ink on the pages. When I hold it in my hands, I am thrilled and a bit frightened, I admit, to see what happens next.
